For some people, exercising seems like one strenuous task after the other. Having a nice workout in the gym can take a lot of time - with all the traveling that needs to be done. And time, as everybody knows, can not be wasted in this day and age.

Exercising does not necessarily need to be done in the gym, the track field or wherever it is that people are expected to work out these days. Even in the very comforts of their home, anybody can work out as if they were in the gym. An advantage of this is that you do not have to pay anything like membership fees, insurance and etc. You can exercise all you want without being conscious of the time and the expenses you incur.

As far as everybody knows, certain gym equipments are needed when working out. However, the use of the gym’s equipment is actually an unnecessary wastage of money. Gym equipments eat up a big percentage of membership payments and you usually don’t get to use all of them. Aside from this, equipments are also strenuous and inconvenient. If you are only motivated to go to a fitness center because of their facilities, might as well reconsider. You can still exercise at home and get the same results. Encyclopedias can actually be substituted for weights and the stairs or roads for running machines. You can warm up by pacing around the house. But if you are in the mood for a vigorous exercise; you can run up and down the stairs and get your heart pumping.

Now, if you really want to work out using the appropriate gym equipment at home, it is practical to check garage sales or thrift shops first. There might be some second hand gym equipments there you can avail of or brand new items that are sold at cheaper rates. This way, you get to secure your desires without ruining your budget. Though superfluous, the advantage of having your own equipment is that you can have regulated exercise routines without leaving the comforts of your home.

Nevertheless, if you really are intent on keeping a fit and healthy body, you should not bother your self too much about the tools you are to use, or the place you are to do it. The more pressing concern you must consider is maintenance of intentions.

Obesity occurs not only as a result of excessive calorie-intake. It could also happen as an aftermath of an illness. It is upon these things that some people find themselves continuing to gain weight or failing to shed the extra pounds. See, despite efforts to get rid of unwanted pounds, proper dieting and exercise alone are not enough to guarantee the achievement of a desired weight.

Here’s a fact: Weight gain may be a result of various factors such as endocrine disorders, depression, lack of sleep, medications, and stress.

The endocrine system produces hormones and is responsible for various body processes and procedures - like metabolism. The amount of hormone this system produces affects the entire body. Endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism are among the most common causes of weight gain. This disease, which may be diagnosed with simple blood test, is characterized by fatigue, weakness, dry skin, cold intolerance and depression.

Depression has also been scientifically proven to cause weight gain. This disorder may result from an imbalance of serotonin, a brain chemical that helps regulate mood and appetite. Serotonin imbalance leads to changes in appetite. This is the reason why people who are depressed either tend to eat a lot or none at all. Depression also manifests as isolation, the lack of motivation, feeling of hopelessness, loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, as well as unexplained aches and pains. These symptoms affect the frequency and intensity of physical activity that may cause wight loss.

Being overweight may also be due to lack of sleep which occurs as a result of hormonal imbalances. When a person lacks sleep, he develops insulin resistance and eventually develops intense sugar cravings.

Medications such those for the treatment of diabetes as well as oral contraceptives contribute to weight gain. This is largely because these medications contain chemicals that trigger food cravings or promote fat build up.

Stress is another factor that contributes to weight gain. Stress increases the body’s cortisol, a hormone that is responsible for weight gain. The cortisol, also called the “stress hormone”, is also responsible for a person’s level of immunity, sensitivity to pain and homeostasis. As an added input, cortisol imbalances results in impaired cognitive performance, decreased bone density, and higher blood pressure among others.

Elliptical training machines are among the most popular body building equipment these days. As a matter of fact, most workout centers and homes currently house these machines because of the health benefits it offers.

An elliptical exercise machine provides low-impact cardio workouts and does not give too much stress on the joints. This makes it perfect for those who like to have a decent workout routine but cannot afford to strain their bodies. Unlike other training machines, elliptical training machines do not wear out the heart. These machines allow individuals to continue performing light activities for a long period of time and never get tired. This machine basically does not drain the energy from the rest of the body, making it a top choice of many health buffs.

Elliptical exercise machines are also known to help improve posture. It allows individuals to perform activities and movements without giving too much tension on the muscles. This machine, in fact, is very effective in toning the muscles.

The other benefits of elliptical training machines include improving stamina and leg power. See, these machines allow individuals to perform repetitive tasks which essentially help improve stamina. Repetitive exercises allow the muscles to contract as the intensity of the exercise routine is increased. However, individuals who train on these machines are reminded to be careful not to exhaust their muscles.

Moreover, an elliptical exercise machine increases leg power through its adjustable stride length. Increased stride length develops the muscles in the upper leg and helps make the legs stronger.

Aside form promoting good posture and developing stamina and leg power, elliptical training machines are also known to effectively tone the body in a gentler way. Individuals who use these machines hardly feel they are actually burning calories while performing their favorite routines. So they tend to exercise for longer periods of time.

Everyone who has ever been overweight knows the struggle of getting that fit and lean figure. It’s a sad truth, but not all of us are created equally. Some people were born into this world a little more endowed than others. But is that their fault that they have to agonize over getting something that’s good for them? No. But life’s that way. It gives you reasons to try and try even harder. So don’t feel depressed just yet when you find yourself not getting any thinner or younger. If it seems like you are loosing the battle, take a look at the lives of the heroines of physical reformation stories themselves… Hollywood celebrities!

Take Anne Hathaway for example. She was a voluptuous woman when she entered showbiz. But she had trimmed down her weight a bit, in order to match roles in movies she starred in (The Devil Wears Prada and Get Smart). Anne was a fan of small frequent feedings and exercise. She trained with Jessica Alba’s instructor to get a stronger body and made sure her food choices were always healthy and nutritious. Today, she has a leaner figure to match her pretty face.

Now, Jessica Alba herself began her career in Hollywood a little heavier than her current self. And to think, she had a baby last 2008. How come she was still able to maintain her dreamy figure? Well, Jessica applied a little discipline and hard work daily. Her diet was controlled, with carb intake monitored – which means no bread and desserts. But she does not deprive her self of cravings though as she indulges in little piece of cake when the mood calls for it. Partnered with a daily exercise routine, which lasts for about 45 minutes, and consist of some cardio and core muscle work out, and she remains hot and very young looking at 29.

Beyonce also has her runs with weight gain but she embraces the challenge of weight loss by buying clothes one size less her current and motivates her self to healthily get into them by the next months. She runs and lifts weights, eats small frequent meals, and detoxifies her body regularly.

If there is anything that these stars want to impress, it is that they were/are just like us – in a constant tug-of-war with weight. But what they try to do to pull themselves out of the slump is continually motivate themselves and apply discipline and fidelity in carrying out their plans. Diet and exercise do work. But it is only with commitment that they provide results. Yes, we may not be created equal. Some may have a slower metabolism, a bigger bone structure, or more fat to burn. But weight loss is not an impossible feat to accomplish given the right supply of drive.
